The Minister of State responsible of State Civil Aviation of India Jyotiraditya Scindia has congratulated the Tata group on taking the control of Air India. He expressed his confidence in the Tatas’ ability to take the airline forward. Tatas will lead the airline to new levels.
In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Jyotiraditya Scindia stated, “Not only I, but the civil aviation fraternity and people of India at large all stand to gain from the culmination of the very very long process that has been in the making for over two decades. I’m extremely relieved and happy that we have culminated this transaction.”
Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed confidence in Tata Group’s growth and stated, ” …through Tata’s infusion of challenges as well as resources, Air India will once again command the high skies that it always has.”
“I wish them all the very best. They have all the required talent and strategy element to make this a success…May they fly high,” Jyotiraditya Scindia stated.
Jyotiraditya Scindia also praised her Narendra Modi government’s “initiative and determination”. “It is only because of the resolve and determination of our prime minister [Narendra Modi] that this process has actually seen the light of day,” the politician said.
“It’s a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and his initiative that the responsibility of the government is not be in bussiness, but instead to create and environment for business to flourish,” Jyotiraditya Scindia told.
Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed gratitude to the ministry as well as Air India officials for making the acquisition possible.
“There were many times, when certainly what appeared to be roadblocks. But I must thank all members of the ministry and Air India that they put their best foot forward…and ensured that this transaction sees the light of day,” Jyotiraditya Scindia declared.
Jyotiraditya Scindia’s comments were made just a few days before that the Tata Group took over Air India for 70 years after it had been acquired by an Indian conglomerate.
THE AIR INDIA TAKEOVER
Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekharan took over the administration of Air India on Thursday. Air India is legally owned and operated by Talace the subsidiary of Tata Group’s Holding Company.
The total amount of Rs. 2,700 crore was accepted by the state following which the shares were transferred, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey said.
Air India was started by the Tata Group in 1932. But, when the country gained independence in 1953, the airline was made a national in 1953 by then-prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
