Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Kashmir Files is doing very well in spite of all challenges. Despite being made on a small budget and very little marketing and promotion, and a few controversies, the movie has seen a huge increase in the theatres. The Kashmir Files released in the theaters on March 11. The film stars Anupam Kher as well as Mithun Chakraborty. The film is set in 1990 , during the Kashmir insurgency.


The Kashmir Files had an extraordinary opening at the box-office and made an impressive Rs 3.55 millions on opening day. In spite of all odds it was a huge success on the third day. massive crowds of people flocked to theatres to see the film. It was even bigger than other films that were playing in theaters across the world. Although The Kashmir Files had a limited release, due in part to the demand it has seen the numbers of screens and movies have increased. The day 3 screenings were 2000. The film saw a positive growth on Saturday after it grew from the previous Friday’s collections of 3.55 crore to an estimated Rs. 8.5 crore. According to reports, Vivek Agnihotri’s movie earned 14 crore on the third day.

Analyst for trade Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Limited promotions, Non-holiday release, Mighty opponent [#RadheShyam], Limited screen count [Fri 630+] #TheKashmirFiles emerges triumphant, despite sooo many odds. #India screen count on Day 3 [Sun]: 2000. Will cross lifetime biz of #TheTashkentFiles in 3 days (sic).”

The Kashmir Files also had advanced reservations on Day 3.

It tells the account of the horrific suffering endured by Kashmiri people in 1990 in the Kashmir insurgency. Its Kashmir Files’ cast features Anupam Kher as Pushkarnath, Mithun Chakraborty as Brahma Dutt, Darshan Kumar as Krishna Pandit, Pallavi Joshi as Radhika Menon, Bhasha Sumbali as Shraddha Pandit, and Chinmay Mandlekar as Farooq Malik , aka Bitta and many more. The film is funded through Tej Narayan Agarwal, Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Agnihotri under the Zee Studios, IAmBuddha and Abhishek Agarwal Arts banners.
